Do you have a space where you can work on your guitar? Where do you change your strings? I have set up more“ work areas” than I can count and none of them have ever proved to be very efficient.
Over the years, I have been able to hang out with guitar tech friends as they are setup sidestage to take care of artist’ s guitars during live shows. Being able to see their guitar tech workbenches has given me an overload of ideas and inspirations, but duplicating those ideas has been impossible as I just don’ t have a dedicated space for such at home or at my church office. So, I have continued as I’ ve done for 40 + years … changing strings in a chair or on the floor or the couch all the while hoping that I don’ t lean over to grab a tool and end up dropping my guitar yet again!
I noticed the display at the On-Stage booth at NAMM this past January and what I saw there was a solution to a years-long problem … a stand that folds up like a keyboard stand yet is built for guitar and can hold your guitar at various angles. The guitar can sit fully upright as in a standard guitar stand. It can also tilt at several angles that are comfortable for string changing or it can shift to hold the guitar fully parallel with the floor as on a work bench.
With an adjustable rest at the bottom and also at the neck, my guitar is held safely and securely in each position. The square metal tubing construction and wide feet( like a keyboard stand) help hold the stand secure and balanced. The guitar angle is easily adjusted with a spring-loaded pin adjustment just like the ones on many keyboard“ X-Stands.”
Now, when I am installing or changing out electronics, I’ ll spread out a towel on the kitchen counter and get to work … however, that’ s not always a practical option.
So maybe you don’ t get into installing electronics, changing out tuners, or performing major surgery on your beloved guitar. You still need to tech your instrument … change strings, treat your fretboard, polish frets … make
