CAPO GUITAR
“ YOU ARE HOLY( ISAIAH 6)” FROM JESUS IMAGE | Mitch Bohannon
Do you categorize your songs as“ praise” and“ worship”? I’ ve always thought of“ praise” as praising or thanking God for what He has done and“ worship” as worshipping God for Who He is. But there can still be different categories of both“ praise” and“ worship.” I had a worship leader friend who called every fast song“ praise” and every slow song“ worship.”
The Word says that we are to“ Enter His gates with thanksgiving.” I see that as“ praise” and that’ s how I try to begin every worship service … songs like“ Glorious Day,”“ Firm Foundation( He Won’ t),” and“ Praise.” Songs that are“ worship” are songs more about the character of God like“ What a Beautiful Name,”“ Worthy of it All,” and“ Holy Forever.” All these songs sing about Who God is.
The song is extremely simple to play with the Short-Cut Capo. It only takes a four-chord progression that never changes. Jesus Image recorded the song in the key of“ C,” so to play with their recording, you’ ll need to place a full capo on fret 3 and the Short-Cut on fret 5. I chose to lead the song in the key of“ Bb” with capos on frets 1 and 3 … just one step down from the recording.
I start out finger style, keeping the first verse and first half of the chorus light and intimate. Watch the video and you’ ll see that sometimes I add a chord between the“ A” and“ F # m.” Depending on the dynamic of the song, I’ ll often play an
“ E / G #” when stepping from the“ A” to“ F # m” so to add a little movement to the music.
This is one of those songs that you can just camp out on, soak in His presence. The chorus is simple and could be tagged onto other songs like“ Holy Forever.” Remember to spend time worshipping as you rehearse and prepare!

I think it’ s important to include songs that are what I call“ deep worship” or“ soaking worship …” songs that transport us to the very Throne Room of God. If a congregation is simply half-engaged or just singing words off the screen, this kind of song can be boring or easily fall flat. These songs don’ t need tricky melodies or complex chord progressions. These are“ face-down” songs like this example from Jesus Image.
“ You Are Holy( Isaiah 6)” is actually a rerecording of a 25-year-old song from Richy Clark. Jesus Image only used verse 1 and the chorus from the song and that’ s also how I lead it in my church. Verse 1 comes directly from Isaiah 6 where Isaiah is describing his vision of God in His Throne Room and the angels circled around Him in continuous worship. It’ s a powerful image that has been preached about and discussed many times over. For me, that text put to music like it is in“ You Are Holy( Isaiah 6)” makes the text really come to life and it was a powerfully moving moment in our church the first time I lead it.
