while he was making the first cedar top, which my son Ian now has. He’ s got that very first one. Then Jim also, he made a 2004 model, which I presently use that I would take out and do concerts over the last 22 years until I stopped playing concerts. My last concert was last November, but I’ m doing a lot of studio work, and I use not only Jim Olson’ s acoustic, I use the Del Langejans acoustic too. In fact, on the new album, I sent you the vocal album called Things of Heaven. There’ s a tune on in called“ Canterbury Fields”. I just put music to it last week and it’ s a Joni Mitchell tuning, like an open D tuning there are gifted musicians who lead worship. We need those. Bernadette and I are part of a fellowship called The Village Chapel here in Nashville and that band is anointed. Tommy Bailey, who has a great voice, plays keyboards and guitar and there’ s Matt Pearson on bass. Sometimes Byron House is on bass, Tom Yarborough and so many other great players who are producers. David Davidson and a string section will play on special services. I mean sometimes they have a full orchestra and Keith Getty and his wife attend there. So, we sing a lot of the modern hymns there. And I think those players are called and gifted.
[ WM ] Far out. I will check that song out. So last thing here Phil. We need to finish well our walk as Christians, and some of us been around a long time. Next year will be my 50th year of being involved in Christian music. You’ ve been involved even longer. But we need to stay strong and walk well and shine that light right to the end.
What words of advice do you have for Christian musicians out there, people serving their local churches as worship musicians as well as folks just playing at home in a garage band?
Then you’ ve got the guys that just want to play for the fun of it. But whatever you do, do heartily as unto the Lord. That’ s what I say.
And keep your eyes on Jesus and that way you won’ t be jealous of anyone. You could steal the riffs and their licks, but that’ s okay.( laughing) But don’ t get covetous and walk in the peace that Jesus gives you. Be who you are in Christ and be free because he’ s called us to liberty to do good. And I think making music is a good thing. I’ ve always loved making music and I’ m going to do it till my last breath.
[ Phil ] Well, I like the variety of the fact that philkeaggy. bandcamp. com
