Dann Huff isn’ t a household name to many people outside of the music business, but even if you don’ t recognize the name, you have heard the music he has been involved with. Artists that cover all genres of music from Michael Jackson, Dolly Parton, Taylor Swift, Barbara Streisand, Kenny Loggins, Reba McEntire, Michael Bolton, Donna Summer, Rod Steward, Kenny Rogers, George Benson and Megadeth. But we are getting ahead of ourselves as this is part of Huff’ s Producer career.
Dann was born in Nashville, TN, a rarity in itself, and was raised in a musical family where his father was a conductor and arranger for the Nashville Symphony and his brother was a drummer. He was bitten by the session musician bug after learning scales from a local session guitarist. Dann also went to high school and was in a band with Gordon Kennedy, best known for his work with Garth Brooks and Ricky Skaggs. By the time Huff was sixteen years of age he had already become a demo player in Music City. And at 20 he helped form the groundbreaking Christian Rock band“ Whiteheart.” After that Dann made a right turn in his music career and joined a popular Hard Rock / Metal band named Giant. WM got the chance to interview Dann Huff, producer, guitarist and session musician about his new and first solo instrumental album When Words Aren’ t Enough.
[ WM ] Dan, this is your first solo album that you have come out with, why now?
[ Dann Huff ] I could answer why not? That’ s a great question. Let’ s just say, I had ample excuses( laughing), because my production career left no breathing space. But, if you lift up the hood and look at the underbelly, I think the other reason was that there was an erosion, possibly of my confidence. I didn’ t play guitar like I did for the first 20 years of my career, which was 10 to 12 hours a day. The more time you spend away from it, it feels slightly foreign. And if I’ m being really honest, I didn’ t have any material.
[ WM ] Has it surprised you how popular the album has been with your fans and people that,
