MATT CROCKER interlude
Faithfulness” both of which hold true to original melodies but add creative and delicate musical twists that give these Sunday morning classics a fresh and modern feel.
Seattle based Citizens takes the lead in the simple and folksy“ Where Can I Go That My Maker Won’ t Go”. This track features southern bluesy guitars, a B3 organ and simple melodies boldly proclaiming all the ways that our God is with us no matter what storms we face in this life.
Worship icon Paul Baloche teams with Grammy Award winner Dee Wilson in the honest yet humble,“ Oh to Be Like You” which exalts Jesus as the ultimate servant who left his throne in Heaven to be one of us so He could be our ultimate sacrifice. The combination of the two voices makes this a standout track that will appeal to a multitude of worshipping generations.
Sarah Kroger and Stefan Cashwell’ s“ How Precious Your Presence to Me” is a simple and honest offering to Jesus. The arrangement is absolutely perfect with a clean classical guitar backing Kroger’ s soft vocal as she proclaims how much she needs to be at the feet of Jesus at all times.
This second installment from Anchor Hymns does a great job of keeping the main thing the main thing without unnecessary production. These are simple songs of worship written for the local church delivered honestly and humbly by some of the great worship artists of our time.

If you see veteran worship writer and leader, Matt Crocker’ s name and wonder“ Wait, have I heard of him before?”, the answer is most certainly‘ yes’ if you know songs like“ Scandal of Grace”,“ This I Believe” and“ I Surrender” from his days at Hillsong UNITED. Crocker has since moved on from the Australian worship collective to launch his solo career with his first album, interlude. The eleven-song collection has a very familiar yet fresh feel about it as Crocker brings the well-known UNITED vibe in to many of these tracks while his writing and delivery are a bit more personal and relevant to the listener.
Crocker’ s voice soars on the title track as he and Brooke Ligertwood team up for this tender and honest ballad about waiting for the return of Jesus. Not often do you hear such a gentle
and humble song to kick off a worship album with a quiet acoustic guitar and the gorgeous smooth harmonies sounding like a sweet lullaby. This hope filled song calls the listener to cling to the promises of God while not settling for the treasures of this world as we wait for His return.
“ PRAiiiSE” is a mid-tempo, congregationally friendly song of vertical worship extoling the loving nature of our God and pointing the listener to the unwavering shelter that Jesus daily provides.
“ Skeletons” is a unique, groovy expose of Exodus 37 as Crocker confidently sings of how the blood of Jesus gives the dead new life while“ Underneath My Skin” gives us an intimate view of Crocker’ s humble walk with Christ.
There are a lot of intimate personal worship moments and Sunday morning ready songs on this first album from Matt Crocker. The writing is pretty solid throughout and most of these songs could be emulated by the amateur worship team. Themes like God’ s faithfulness, His love for creation and the saving power of the cross are obvious and creatively crafted and the songs are just different enough across the board to keep the album interesting.
