the first one, I heard the AC 30, it was mind blowing. It’ s like,“ Okay, that sounds legit.” And I’ m such a Marshall plexi guy that the Lion … that pedal just blew me away. It’ s legit. I have quite a collection of plexis’. That thing is insane. It’ s really good. And then they released it as a plugin.
Even though I’ ve got all my real amps, I will very often start with the Lion plugin, if I just need something that sounds amazing right out of the gate or if I’ m just working at home. Sometimes I’ ll just be sitting out in this nook area while my wife’ s hanging out. She likes to cook, so she’ ll be cooking. I’ m sitting over here at my little table with my guitar plugged straight into the Hi-Z input on the Solo interface. And I’ ve got this world class 68’ plexi Marshall pulled up and I’ m sitting here just recording guitar parts. It’ s crazy.( laughs)
[ WM ] Right on. Is there any other new gear you’ ve gotten in lately that you’ re excited about?
[ Linc ] Yeah, honestly, lots of cool things. I started putting together a pedalboard for the first time. I started doing some work with IK Multimedia and the TONEX stuff. And that’ s a cool thing, too. And people go like, oh, what’ s better? Like UA Lion or TONEX? That’ s a weird question. It’ s not apples to apples. I have certain models of Marshall plexi’ s that the Lion doesn’ t do. The Lion does three models,’ 68 1959 Super Lead 100 watt Super Lead,’ 68 1992 Super Bass 100 watt, and a slightly modded’ 68 1959 Super Lead 100 watt that’ s was modeled with a Variac at 90 volts like the Eddie version. And it has, I don’ t know, six cabs or something like that.
So a good example of a use for TONEX is one of my favorite amps is a 67’ 1986 bass circuit 50-watt plexi. It’ s very different sounding and feeling than those amps. So, I’ ll capture those and use TONEX for amps that UA doesn’ t have available.
I was always looking for what’ s the best of the best capturing technology that I could do. And TONEX is terrific. So, I use that. Unfortunately, they don’ t make a fully contained piece of hardware that’ s multi-effects and all that. So then you kind of have to put together a rig, a pedal board that does the other stuff with a switcher and all that. So to get into that I got a temple pedal board. That’ s amazing. I’ m using an RJM switcher and trying some different pedals out from different companies … Strymon is awesome. Using some Keeley stuff, Boss stuff. That’ s fun. Lots of cool things available.
[ WM ] When you get that done, we’ ll do a
