it and it will be a very different record than it would’ ve been had I finished it sooner. It’ s super fun. I’ ve got some killer guest guitar players who I can’ t name now but that are going to be playing on it with me. That wouldn’ t have happened before … some new friendships and just with some guys I’ ve really admired.
So that’ s really one of the top priorities for the rest of the year … to get that record finished and then the software relaunched.
[ WM ] Okay, so let’ s talk about the software for a minute …
[ Linc ] So yes, the company’ s called Redwirez. I’ ve been using Redwirez IR’ s for probably 12 years. It’ s an impulse response player basically. Also, a really great library of IR’ s. One of the things I didn’ t like about using impulse responses was when you buy a library of guitar impulse responses, there’ s so many of them and it’ s difficult to find even where to start. And there’ s no visual interface to give you some reference to reality. What would I do on a real guitar cabinet? So, you’ ve heard phrases like, option fatigue, it’ s just I don’ t know where to start. I wouldn’ t even know what to A / B. And there haven’ t been a lot of good mechanisms for that.
So Redwirez has had one that is really good, but the marketing, they just didn’ t get it out there. It’ s kind of wild how I ended up with the company. I got on the site one day to see if they had an Apple silicon version of the software and there was a letter from the owner that was like,“ Hey, I’ m shutting the company down.”
And so basically, I sent an email through the support line and just said, would you want to sell your company? We ended up talking and he heard my vision for the future, and he said,“ You’ re the right guy.” And so, we have been working for quite a while to completely revamp it on every front. I would say we are probably a few months away from having it ready but it’ s going to be rad. I would think if we could have it released by Christmas, I would be glad. There’ s a lot that goes into it, but it’ s very cool.
I’ m super passionate about all things guitar. I’ ve been like this since I was a kid. When I lived in Los Angeles, I was a young guy( early 20s) and was learning from some really great engineers and great guitar players. Learning where you place the mic on your cabinet is a massive deal. And being able to do not just with a single mic but with multiple microphones and utilizing the room mics and a rear mic and really fully micing a cab. And there’ s just not been a lot of good environments for that to be recreated virtually. Right now, most guys are heavily focused on a lot of presets where the presets are entirely different rigs. It’ s a whole rig, right? It’ s like a head, a cabinet and a microphone. And then when you change presets, you’ re going to a whole different head and cab and a whole other microphone. And then you have like, well
