Synthogy is renowned for its virtual pianos , and I had the pleasure of reviewing their highly acclaimed Ivory 2 in 2014 . Fast forward to the present day , I was eager to explore the new Ivory 3 , which features the Steinway D 9-foot concert grand . Synthogy has truly outdone itself with this release . Ivory 3 introduces a revolutionary proprietary technology called the RGB ( real-time gradient blending ) engine . This innovative engine combines the best aspects of sampling and Full Harmonic Modeling , resulting in a piano that feels and sounds incredibly authentic , truly capturing the essence of a real concert grand .
OUT OF THE BOX : Embarking on the journey with Ivory 3 is a seamless experience . The software is fortified with PACE iLok protection , which can be assigned to your key or to your computer for added convenience . For Mac users , the system requires Catalina or newer , while PC users need Win 10 64bit release 1609 or newer , both with at least 8 core chips . I effortlessly installed the software on my MacBook Pro M1 Max , and the installation was straightforward . The software requires 42 GB of HD space in a two-part process . First , the plug-in and system files are installed on your System drive , followed by the instrument files on an external 4TB SSD drive in my case . A restart is required , and I now have a standalone version , a VST3 for Cubase , an AAX version for Pro Tools , and an AU v2 for Logic , ensuring compatibility with a wide range of setups .
IN USE : At my first listen , the realism and gorgeous sound made me smile . My Dad was a concert pianist . I wish he could have experienced Ivory 3 ! It ’ s a big step up from Ivory 2 . The brand-new user interface is very well laid out and friendly .
On the Top of the GUI are three Buttons : HOME , DESIGN , and PREFERENCES . You are presented with four preset options when opening the Design Preset browser . There are single mics , multiple mics , Cinematic-Ambient , and Layers . I counted a total of fifty-six presets . Each one can have a combination of four mic placements and an additional synth layer . The
