Brad and Jesse had spent the afternoon with David Leonard from All Sons and Daughters , and they just had a good time eating and David kind of fathering them . So they had very little time remaining to actually write a song but they just brought this song and were like , “ Hey , here ’ s the verse , here ’ s the chorus . We ’ re struggling with the bridge a bit ”. And he had some great input for the structure and that kind of “ wake up you sleeper ” joining the Chorus five .
[ WM ] It ’ s just really great . I don ’ t think I ’ ve ever heard a worship song in 12 / 8 . In fact , I don ’ t think I ’ ve heard anything in 12 / 8 since The Grateful Dead . ( Everyone laughs ) It was great . I loved it . You have a lot of great content for worship leaders and teams to adopt , and so I want to encourage them to really check you out online . And I ’ d like to lastly ask you about the song “ Steady Love ”. It ’ s reminiscent of Matt Redman ’ s “ Heart of Worship ” to me , but it doesn ’ t sound anything like it . And so tell us
“ Steady Love ”
about this wonderful expression ?
[ Jessie-Rose ] Yeah , well , “ Steady Love ” was again written on that Nashville trip . We went into a rap with our friend Mitch Wong , and we were just connecting and talking about what we felt God had been speaking to us . And I previously had a year off ( I took a year off staff ) and I ’ ve had some health struggles , and so it was just focusing on my health . And I came in and just said to the guys , Mitch and Bradley Riddle , and said , “ I ’ d love to write a song about a steady love and talk about the ordinary days . And I remember saying to them , “ The days where I ’ m not on a trip to Nashville , because this is a very exciting day . I want to talk about my love that burns when I ’ m feeding the chickens and I ’ m collecting the eggs and I ’ m baking bread and I ’ m cuddling my dog and just in the normalness of life ”.
And so that was kind of where we started . And I remember Mitch just being like , “ Yes , let ’ s talk about that ”. He ’ s just such a proficient songwriter . So , as we were fleshing out some of these ideas , he ’ s just hearing melodies and lyrics . And that was the heartbeat behind it , it was wanting to talk about a love that ’ s consistent , that ’ s not dependent on the big moments , the hyped moments , the exciting moments . But that actually we would be more focused on the inner state of our heart , the moments where no one sees what Psalm 1:39 talks about “ Search me , test my heart and see if there ’ d be any wicked way in me ”. That sort of bearing us , or before God where no one else is looking and that He would keep our heart burning . And I love the bridge how it says ,
