God and all of that . In fact , I was just talking about it on the weekend . I don ’ t believe we should just have a professional church . If the church is not powerful ( we should be regardless of how our churches look or sound ), if we ’ re not experiencing the fullness of who God is as we gather together , then we honestly have missed the point .
For us , I want to do things as good as I can , as well as we can and hopefully take the distractions out for people . And at the same time inspire them and engage with them visually and sonically . But most importantly , they ’ ve got to experience who God is . Otherwise , we ’ re just wasting our time .
[ WM ] Yeah . It kind of reminds me of the old joke of the GMA handshake ( Gospel Music Assn .) Where you meet someone in the lobby and they have their cassette demo in their right hand when they shake hands with you . So , that self-promotion can get a little bit over hyped at times .
[ Henry ] Yeah . And listen , I ’ m so thankful that I ’ m in a town like Nashville ( it still blows my mind ). I ’ ve been living here for ten years and every day you can ’ t go to a coffee shop without hearing someone have a conversation about music or something that they ’ re working on . Or studio gear , Pro Tools , whatever . And that , to me , I still am like a kid in a candy store . I never imagined that I ’ d live in a town like this , and I love it . And I love that the industry ’ s doing so many incredible things . I just think church has got to be a safe and sacred space that we don ’ t lose sight of what God ’ s trying to do in the midst of everything that ’ s happening in our industry .
[ WM ] Yes , definitely . I was looking at your lineup of worship leaders that are involved in TBCO and it is like the Los Angeles Dodgers batting order . I mean , you just have one wellknown worship leader after another . So , tell me how you balance all this out ? How do you give people time ? How do you look at schedules and figure that all out with so much talent on hand ?
[ Henry ] Yeah . I mean , I think every church has their own way of doing things . I know for us , we haven ’ t gone out to try and find those people . They are people who just came and experienced something at church and decided to make that their home church . We don ’ t pay our worship leaders or our musicians on a weekend . They all do it as volunteers . And they ’ re all scheduled on Planning Center . They can put in their block out dates for when they ’ re touring . We ’ ve really just tried to build a space where in and amongst the craziness of their
