that ’ s less than two hours . That ’ s too much , for some people they love it . So , this last record that we did , we actually released two records in the last three months . One called “ Here ” and another called “ Now ”. They started out as the same project , but we realized that it was going to be too much for people to ingest in one go .
And we were finding too that there were some great songs that just weren ’ t getting the traction along the way . So , we spaced that out . But every record that we ’ ve done so far , the songs have all been just captured in church services or in a conference moment . We have rarely had a moment where we ’ ve gone in and said , “ Okay , we ’ re going to record this song on this day . This is how it ’ s going to go .”
We really just want to capture the best moments of what ’ s happening in church . Our approach is less about the pre-planning and pre-production of the song . It ’ s more , let ’ s find a moment that just felt like something happened , it engaged with people , people responded , it feels like , man , this is powerful . We ’ ve done our best just to really capture those moments . So we actually record every single church service that we have . We have multi-tracking every time we come together . We ’ re filming every time we come together . We wanted that to be the flow and the rhythm of our church , so that if there was a moment at any time , we could just say , “ Let ’ s take that . Let ’ s work on it . And let ’ s release that .”
[ WM ] I think it ’ s genius and it ’ s authentic too at the same time . Speaking of songs on the new record . Let ’ s discuss “ Come Alive ( Resurrection Power )” featuring Hope Darst . What a voice Hope has and she is a very present worship
leader . But tell us about that particular song ?
[ Henry ] So that was written by Hope and our worship pastor Andrew Holt , Casey Brown and Ben Schofield . They were writing at our camp a year or so ago , and just really got stirred about this idea of the resurrection power of Jesus . Sometimes we talk about that , but what does that mean ? What does that mean to a believer ? Sometimes I think we can go through the motions and we can understand from an intellectual point of view , but not really understand the fullness of what we have through the cross of Jesus Christ , through the resurrection of Jesus Christ . We have access to power . We have access to physical healing . We have resurrection power in the dreams , in the things in our lives that have grown dead or have died .
There ’ s this space for them to come alive in Christ . That was really the idea that they went into this song . It is just a song of declaration and hope for our church . It has been wild to see that explode in church services where people have got that revelation . This is what Jesus has done for me . I ’ ve got access to this resurrection power . I ’ m going to walk in it . I ’ m not going to stay dead . I ’ m going to walk out of that grave alive .
[ WM ] Right on . Another song I wanted to touch base on is “ This Far ” that David Dennis did . I just love the faithfulness of God in that song . So again , it just came out of congregational life ?
[ Henry ] Yeah , absolutely , they are . And I wasn ’ t in the room when they wrote that , I think that was Jacob Suda , Maggie Reed , and again our worship pastor Andrew Holt .
I know that Andrew had woken up with this idea about this song and brought it to Jacob and Maggie and really pursued the idea of the fact that God has he ’ s brought us this far , he ’ s brought us out of the place that we were . Brought us out of our brokenness into this space , but sometimes we can get to that place and it feels like a roadblock . We feel like we ’ ve come so far . And then we hit a moment where it feels like , “ Man , has God abandoned me ? Has God left me ? Am I walking through this dark season alone ? Am I walking through this desert on my own ?”
And it really is just is an encouragement that God didn ’ t bring you this far to walk out and leave you . He didn ’ t do all of this in your life to turn around and leave you where you ’ re at . He ’ s going to keep being faithful . He ’ s going to keep taking you from glory to glory .
[ WM ] Amen . And the last song we ’ ll talk about for the new record . I think if you just had to watch one song online to get a feel for The Belonging Co , it would be “ Just the Mention of His Name ” ( Feat . Andrew Holt & Natalie Grant ). After that song finishes in your church service , that must be pretty easy to walk out and preach at that point …
[ Henry ] Yeah , exactly ! So we recorded that moment and a lot of this last record from our conference back in September of 2021 . And the night before conference , I think it was after the last rehearsal , Andrew went home , couldn ’ t sleep and he was just sitting in his living room . Just thinking about what happens when you speak about the name Jesus , when you talk about the name Jesus , when you declare the name Jesus . He came to me the next day and Come Alive ( Resurrection Power ) This Far
Just the Mention of His Name
