Reverbs are post delay .
The RE-2 has many of the same features conveniently in a compact pedal . On top are three center / outside dual-use knobs . Echo / Reverb , Intensity / Tone , and Repeat / Wow & Flutter . The fourth knob is an 11-position Mode Selector . On the sides are Stereo In / Out , and on the right is the Control / Expression Jack . On the back are the 9vDC jack and a Delay carryover switch . The RE-2 can also be powered with a 9v Alkaline battery .
IN USE : My first thought was to put the RE-2 on my church board for lack of space . I usually use two delay pedals and so I placed the RE-2 after the H-9 . There ’ s a Disaster Area GEN-3 to send out tempos . The RE-2 has eleven delay modes and I set it to position three and got the beloved dot vibe using the 8 th note setting on the Gen3 . My favorite setting is Mode eleven , which uses all three playback heads , with a 1 / 4 note tap and some spring reverb . The delay repeats are so beautiful and make for one of my all-time favorite sounds . The rhythmic delays cascade in the most fantastic way . You can also access the cool Twist effect with an external Footswitch .
The RE-202 went on my studio pedalboard . This pedal serves equally as Studio-Quality outboard gear like the original RE 201 , or as a killer pedal . The RE-202 has several features missing from the little brother . There are the original three playback heads , and an additional fourth playback head . This allows for even more rhythmic colors than the original . Also , you can choose optional Reverb Algorithms , such as hall , plate , room , and ambiance . The
Spring Reverb is still one of the best I ’ ve heard . You can tell BOSS put in lots of work to make it so authentic . The delays in these units sound more complex than typical digitally modeled units . Most delays are linear- they ’ re always exact divisions of a given tempo . The RE-202 however is Logarithmic and creates musical and complex delay patterns . There are very noticeable differences . I ’ ve always been a big fan of the rhythmic delays that fade with natural degradation .
The RE-202 also allows quite a bit of control over the delays themselves . The Tape switch goes from New & clean to Aged . This adds some distortion and less definition on the high end . Wow and Flutter adds amazing pitch characteristics . Traditionally the “ Wow ” is when the tape slows a little and adds a deep random pitch modulation on the first playback head ,
