played on a lot the records . If you want to use that on the show ." I ' m like , " I ' m not going out on your show with a 62 ’ Strat . You ' re going to shoulder block me into the third row , and you ' ll destroy that guitar ." He said , " I ' ve also got a Chris Gains tele .” ( which I designed with Fender in 1999 or 2000 ). We did 21 guitars that were the Chris Gaines Fender Telecaster . He had signed on the pickguard , which is a silver metal Chrome pickguard , using his left hand , Chris Gaines , so it doesn ' t look anything like his signature . That ' s how we pulled off the signature . Somebody had asked me if I would do an interview about the Garth tour and all this stuff . I asked him , I said , " Man , if the Chris Gaines thing comes up , what do I do ?" He goes , “ You always are free to tell anything you want . Just tell the truth ." He said , " Everybody else can talk about that project except for me ." He was talking about himself .
But then a weird thing happened a year ago . Childish Gambino did “ Lost in You ” on a YouTube video , coupled with the fact there was a Chris Gaines reunion at a local club here complete with cover band , and it was the 20th anniversary of the release of the album . I ' ve always said this about that album when people ask me , I go , " Well , in my experience , what I would say is everybody that heard it loved it , everybody else hated it ." But now he ' s starting to talk about it , and it ' s going to come back around at some point . He will have to talk about it , and deal with it , because he ' s always putting together anthology projects and box sets , and different things . That has not appeared in anything yet . It ' s been off limits . But now I think it ' s been 20 plus years now , and people have started talking about it to the point of where he ' s joining in with the conversation , and at some point , something interesting may happen .
[ WM ] Tell us about Frampton Forgets the Words project .
[ Gordon ] Back in 2006 , when we were working on what became the Fingerprints instrumental album , we ' re writing songs together . There were some sessions where he
( Peter Frampton ) would go travel and do them by himself , and there was some that I did in Nashville . We were putting the finishing touches on the record . But during the session , he was like , " I need a title ." I said at some point , " How about Frampton Forgets the Words ?" I thought it was great , and he said , “ Oh , well you know , I actually do forget the words sometimes ."
He was self-conscious about it , so that got dismissed , and was called Fingerprints . Flash forward to now , when he came off tour recently , he went into the studio knowing that he ' s got this IBM degenerative muscular disease . He just went into the studio and cut three albums at once , a blues album , an instrumental , and one of covers … all the songs on Frampton Forgets the Words . He finally made peace with that title , which I think is hilarious .
[ WM ] Are you experimenting with any guitar pedals ?
[ Gordon ] I ' ve used one of the Nobels Mini pedals that Greg Walton at XTS modified to be a little more guitar friendly . I ' ve used one of the Archer pedals that Chris Van Tassel modified . Chris made me two of those pedals , and I understand that Jeff Beck pulled his Klon off the board and bought five of these things . Those pedals work great . I also just acquired an Analog Man King of Tone and Prince Of Tone that will definitely be used . I may have taken the EP boost out there , I have one of the MXR Echoplex pedals , because I have actual old Echoplex ' s . But just to have a little slap back , but it ' s not necessary .
[ WM ] Do you feel that the band “ White Heart ”
