It is amazing that creative mad-man David Crowder has been gifting the church with music for more than two decades . His out-ofthe-box approach to songwriting and arranging have played a big part in keeping him relevant no matter what musical genre is dominating the Christian airwaves . His latest release , Milk & Honey is a new 12 song collection that is rich in musical diversity and well written songs of praise and wonder .
Crowder shows his musical adaptability as he generously hops in and out of musical genres throughout this release seemingly with ease . From the raucous southern pop opener
“ He Is ” shows Crowder ’ s softer side and begins with him playing an old upright piano and authentically declaring the faithfulness of God in all things . “ The Anchor ” is a bluesy reminder that Jesus is constant and the anchor of our faith when life ’ s storms threaten to overtake us .
The title track gives us that classic Crowder formula as it begins with a slightly sinister banjo and stomp box as we hear about our eternal destination because of the sacrifice of Christ . The song builds up the tension in the fiery way that Crowder has made his trademark for so long . I loved how Crowder layered the idea of the Israelites wandering in the desert waiting for the promised land to our current life circumstance which is not always easy , but we share the promise of eternal life .
This is a solid offering from Crowder . The thing that has set him apart all these years is the thing that makes this album better than average . His ability to weave genres , write songs about real life faith experiences and to provide interesting arrangements keeps this album afloat . There were a few songs that dipped their lyrical toe into the cliché ocean and it would have been nice to hear a female vocal in a duet , but I think you will enjoy this welcome return for Crowder .

Sinach is a Nigerian-born songwriter and worship leader who is quickly becoming world renowned as the writer of the well-loved song , “ Waymaker ” which has been covered by more than 60 artists .
