KIDS WORSHIP
FOR THE ONE | Yancy

I have some ministry years under my belt . I realize that we love to post about the shiny . We are quick to talk about the attendance records set but we often forget to celebrate the one . I have many stories to tell where God has opened my eyes to see that it was all about the one .
Over the years of ministry , I have learned it wasn ’ t about the stage or the size of the crowd … but in many cases it was about one person . Yes , God does have people put on whole events and do lots of work to capture the heart of one . Let me share a few examples .
I remember a summer event I was a part of . This church had transitioned from a traditional VBS to a backyard Bible club . There was a young girl who had attended but was from a family of another religion . When she got invited to the family concert I was doing , she told the leader , “ My parents won ’ t let me go to the church .” After a few days of conversation and building relationship the leader , who happened to be the kids pastor ’ s wife , asked if the parents would consider bringing her to church where she could meet them outside and then allow the daughter to attend the concert . The parents agreed . The attendance was less than it could have been that night . The ministry director knew they had not properly promoted the event and was really beating himself up over it . There ’ s a point in my concert I would choose two people to come help me rock out on some old guitar hero guitars . Guess who I chose at random that night ? The girl from the family of another religion . In that instant the Children ’ s Pastor knew THIS was all about that girl . She experienced Jesus that week and we all got to be a part of the process .
Back in a big season of transition . I was on two tours at the same time with a new partner in ministry CIY ( Christ In Youth ). That year by God ’ s miraculous design the two tours only overlapped three times that year which made it possible for me to do both . This testimony was from one of those cities that I wasn ’ t supposed to be in . They chose me to be with SuperStart that weekend in Cincinnati . But during sound check , the host church closed the facility due to a snowstorm . Our event was cancelled . So I hopped in the vans with the team , realizing the Believe tour was in St Louis and they could get me there . My now friend was a student at the event and was impacted by a song I led , “ Lead Me to the Cross ” which was new at the time . I realized I wasn ’ t even supposed to be there but got to be . I have no doubt me being in St Louis that weekend was all for him . Zack reminded me how special it is to get to do what I do for the Lord .
Just this week I spent time with a worship leader I ’ m coaching . She shared about a young girl who was in their Christmas program . She is in a single parent home with a Dad that is trying so hard to keep it all together . This girl doesn ’ t come from the same home life or school system that many of the families she works with do . The worship leaders had an opportunity to help them with some things so they would have what they needed for the program . The Dad showed up with flowers for the little girl after the final performance . There wasn ’ t an overflowing schedule of other holiday activities , recitals and things to be a part of . THIS church program was a big deal for this family . As I was told this story , we were both tearing up and I thought , “ What if it was all for this little girl … to be seen . To have a place . To be proud of what she accomplished . To have a part in sharing the Gospel and experiencing it
for herself too ?” I am crazy enough to believe a church could go through all the rehearsals and late hours so that one person could have their life changed by Jesus .
It ’ s great to accomplish big things , set records and have many reasons to celebrate . We should do those things . But never be discouraged by the times that it seems you leave the ninety-nine for the one . That ’ s the kind of Good Shepherd we have . He always takes care of the one . Many times , we will get to be a part of the process of the one being seen , known and loved . Keep doing what you do and being faithful to what He has called you to do , for the one .
