Worship collective icon , Bethel Music ’ s latest live worship release , We Must Respond is a huge collection of new songs featuring such gifted leaders as Jenn and Brian Johnson , Josh Baldwin , Hannah McClure and Aodhan King . The album features songs that not only explore God ’ s forgiveness , mercy , blessings and faithfulness but also contains songs that serve as sort of a musical recipe of ways God ’ s people can respond daily to His love .
A few of the standout tracks include “ The Church ” led by Jenn Johnson ’ s velvety vocals . This creatively written and thoughtful song about the mission and purpose of the church
on earth is a great reminder to every believer of the importance of being in fellowship and regular worship with the body of Christ .
“ He ’ s The One ” is a deep dive into the unique power of our God as Emmy Rose proclaims the miracles and faithfulness of Jesus that are unmatched and how this alone makes Him worthy of our praise .
My album favorite is the Jenn Johnson led , “ Made For More ” which is a powerful announcement to the believer that our selfworth comes from Christ alone while reminding us that we are called by God to be a part of something much bigger than ourselves ; the spreading of the Gospel .
I really enjoyed the simplicity of some of the songs that were included in this collection as well . Songs like “ He Has Done Great Things ”, “ Another Like You ”, “ Holy Song ” and “ Center ” are all vertically themed and humbly performed without the too-often over produced sound of many modern worship albums . Acoustic guitars , upright pianos and strings give these songs give warmth and add authenticity to the entire album while helping the listener go deep into personal worship .
A few of examples of the “ how-to ” respond to God ’ s goodness include the groovy , “ If The Lord ” which features the soulful vocals of Zahriya Zachary as she passionately calls for God ’ s people to testify to His greatness through singing praises and lifting our voices as a daily response of thankfulness .
“ My Hallelujah ” led by Aodhan King hits the thematic bullseye as he fervently sings about how there is no better way to say thank you to our God than to give Him our entire heart as a forever response to His love .
This album is one of my favorites from Bethel .
There is a nice balance of arena type anthems with big guitars , drums and pads while on the opposite side of the spectrum , there are some simple , almost camp-like ( in a good way ) songs that give space for the listener to breathe . Theologically , this album is solid throughout announcing the saving power of Jesus , the authority of scripture , the importance of the church and the reality of the crucifixion and resurrection . There are definitely songs here that will find their way into my regular Sunday rotation .
