KIDS WORSHIP
NEW YEAR GOALS FOR KIDS WORSHIP | Yancy
Here we are living in life after the reset button . I find it fascinating how different our mindset is here at the beginning of a year rather than where we find ourselves on month ten or eleven . There ’ s a fresh buzz in the air . We are more hopeful . We seek to gain vision , clarity , and even self-control as we steward this life we ’ ve been given . The same is true for organizations , ministries , and churches . Some staffs will have retreats to strategize and celebrate . Some will fast and hold special prayer sessions to seek God for what He has in store . So , here we find ourselves at the beginning of a new chapter and story . Using the momentum of this new beginning , here ’ s some areas for kids worship I would encourage to spend time evaluating , planning for and dare I say dreaming about .
YOUR VISION .
If you ’ ve never taken the time to seek God and dream about your vision for kids worship at your church , now is the time . You may have people you want to add to the team . They will need to know your vision in order to run with it and try to accomplish that in each song and set they lead . How do you want to see kids engage ? What do you want them to know and understand about worship , how to participate in it and why it matters in their life ? How in each class , are you also preparing the kids for what ’ s coming next as they move up to other classrooms and even age-groups of ministry ? In this season of goalsetting and vision , take the time to do the same for leading kids in worship . Set a reminder a few times in the year to reflect on how it is going accomplishing the vision . It ’ s always good to put the vision before your eyes and be reminded of what you ’ re trying to accomplish . I have found it is so helpful as you ’ re working with others to give them the goal of what you ’ re trying to do . Point back to the vision in communication you give to the other leaders . Help them prayerfully seek the Lord about how to lead each song and point hearts to fall in love with Jesus with every song sung .
THE SONGS YOU ’ RE SINGING .
When was the last time you evaluated the songs you ’ re using ? What is working great ? What feels overdone ? What is starting to run stagnant ? What gets the kids excited ? Take note of these things . Make edits where needed . Eliminate songs that need it . Sit down with other members of your team or even students to gain clarity and perspective if needed . When was the last time you introduced something new ? Was it at VBS ? People often ask me how often to introduce something new . I think it ’ s possible to do one new song every month . But , if that feels impossible to you , set a goal to start introducing at least one new song every quarter . Build upon it as needed . Maybe even set reminders in your calendar a few times a year to set aside some time to find and plan out new songs for your ministry .
HOW YOU CAN LIFT JESUS UP .
I ’ ve been pondering how to help our kids hunger and thirst for more of Jesus and time spent in His presence . I truly believe one experience can change everything for them seeking more of Him . As I ’ ve been processing how we help them experience this , the verse that keeps coming up in my spirit is John 12:32 “ And I , when I am lifted up from the earth , will draw all people to myself .” NIV How do we help kids draw close to Jesus ? Intentionally lifting Him up . I believe this happens in various ways and elements through our services . I truly believe our song choices matter . I believe prayerful time spent in preparation matters . God will speak to you and push you towards a scripture or a topic about worship , heart posture , etc . to share with them . Ask these questions : How do your songs lift Jesus up ? How is the way you are leading , lifting Jesus up ? How are you leading the kids in your class to lift Jesus up ? I believe this is a simple mindset shift that could truly transform the worship experiences that happen in our next generation ministries .
I ’ m on the edge of my seat for what God has in store for us . I ’ m eager to see ministry leaders , pastors and even worship leaders become more passionate about worship discipleship for every generation . Now is the time , it ’ s a new year , let ’ s go !
