KIDS WORSHIP
NEW YEAR VISION & GOALS FOR KIDS WORSHIP | Yancy
If your social media feed is anything like mine , it ’ s filled with posts of reflection on the past year . Everyone is sharing their word or motto for the year . Vision is coming to focus and our intentions for how we ’ re going to get there are being refined . Most of us are pretty good about setting some goals for us personally but let ’ s not forget about having that same kind of passion , focus and commitment for the ministry we lead . If you haven ’ t already it ’ s a great time to stop and reflect on what last year or even the last six months were like . Where did your kids get it ? Where did they exceed even your expectations ? What is happening that you wish would stop ? What is the thing that is holding them back from being fully engaged in worship ? It ’ s good to know where you want to go , but you must know where you are to determine the steps and turns it ’ s going to take to journey to that new ground .
WHAT ’ S YOUR VISION FOR THIS YEAR ? How do you want to see your kids engaged ? What do you want them to learn and know fully ? Answering these questions will help you sketch out a plan for what the songs and worship sets you lead will need to be . Remember every worship set is a journey . Each song takes you somewhere . Plan your songs in a way that will invite your kids in to participate in the offering of worship you are raising up . Remember it ’ s not just about doing songs ; it ’ s about leading them in worship . That is the priority and the mission . I don ’ t want to just be a song singer , but I do want be a worship leader .
Hosea 4:6 says : “ my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge .” ( NIV ) This statement accurately states what happens in so many churches when we aren ’ t teaching our people what worship is , why we do it and how they can take part in it . It ’ s time to make those things be the filter that we lead through . If you ’ re not seeing engagement , consider how your group isn ’ t connecting the dots . What do they not understand ? Do they comprehend the lyrics , or do you need to talk through them as a teaching moment ? When was the last time you talked about the posture of worship ? Help them understand so they can choose to participate whole heartedly . These components are so transformational for me when I ’ m leading new groups of kids at VBS and camps throughout the summer . Just by being intentional to break it down for them , major change and growth occur because I invited them to the table and led them in worship .
IT ’ S ALSO A GREAT TIME TO REFLECT ON YOUR SONGS . What ’ s been working well ? What song is getting tired ? Does it need a rest ? Is it time to shelve it ? What types of songs do you need ? Determine what types of songs you ’ re missing and then go on hunt to find songs that will fill those needs . You can see previews of so many worship lyric videos for kids at worshiphousekids . com . Remember , introducing new songs is a good thing . Psalm 96:1 says : ‘ Sing to the Lord a new song .’ To lead worship according to scripture then singing new songs is a must . Determine to introduce a few new songs over the coming months .
After you determine your vision and goals for kids worship for the year ahead . Don ’ t forget to communicate it to your team ! I can tell you as someone who serves in a local church . I want to hear vision from my leaders . I don ’ t want to just show up on Sunday . I want to be aware of their heart and what they are hearing from the Lord about this specific area of ministry I ’ m serving in . Plan a special meeting . Meet up
somewhere for dinner . Host a Saturday morning breakfast or dessert bar . Just do something to connect both relationally and be purposeful in communicating your vision and goals so that all those that serve in leading kids in worship can understand the mission . It will help them lead kids more intentionally , hearing from you . Don ’ t forget to have fun together . Building relationships with your team is such a difference maker in helping them feel fulfilled and truly a part of something .
This new year season is a time for reflection and vision . May we use the days and weeks ahead with greater intentionality to help kids come to Jesus . That is our purpose and our why . It ’ s time , go lead well in 2023 !
