come into my life , and learn , I think just learn as much as I can . And somehow , that ' s led me to starting Maverick City Music , and to being a part of Bethel Music and writing with Elevation , and being a part of that team , and doing my own records now .
[ WM ] That ’ s a great story ! You toured with Tasha Leonard Cobbs and Bethel Music not that long ago . I can remember from my touring days , sometimes visiting a town for the first time and it just had “ magic ”. I wanted to return there someday . For me , one of those towns was Traverse City , Michigan , during the Fall . It was apple festival time . What say you ? What town or city have you visited that captured you for some reason , and why ?
[ Brandon ] Okay , I cannot deny that , and it was probably because it was the first night of tour . So , there was something electric about that , my first experience being out on tour . And not only tour in general , but a massive tour .
With Bethel , and it was in Miami . And not only was it ... Obviously , Miami ' s a really-cool city , the weather was amazing at the time . But I will never forget the hunger that was in that room . I mean , from the very beginning to the ending of the night , it was explosive . And I ' ve never heard a crowd up until that point in my life , I ' d never heard a group of people sing that loud and come so hungry and expectant for God to move . And so that obviously being my first , but still to this day , it ' s one of my favorite nights that I ' ve ever experienced . There ' s something that
Talking to Jesus happens when people come expecting that . It ' s just absolutely electric !
[ WM ] Yes , I know . That anticipation is not always felt , even going to church on a weekly basis , or visiting a new church . I remember one time visiting down in Atlanta , going to Charles Stanley ' s church . And I never expected what I encountered . I ' d seen him on TV , but the anticipation in the room , and the mixed ethnicities . I didn ' t expect that . I just thought , “ First Baptist Atlanta ”, I had this whole mindset of what it was going to be , and I was completely wrong . It was electric in the room . It blew my mind . So , I know what you ' re talking about .
I must ask you about the song , “ Talking to Jesus ”. It ’ s a story song , which is unusual in the context of worship . That type of song is typically reserved for the country and folk music genres . But what a song you and your co-writers have given us here . It ’ s filled with anticipation and
