that in my words .
[ WM ] You have been leading worship with a guitar now for years . Tell us about the acoustic and electric guitars you use ?
[ Yancy ] Currently , I pretty much travel with a custom Taylor T5 . It ’ s bright pink and a custom inlay . I love it because it allows me to do both acoustic and electric on the road with only one guitar . I ’ m always trying to figure out how to travel lighter and this guitar helped me do that . I also have a custom Taylor 612ce that ’ s seafoam blue . Those are the two you ’ re gonna see me play live with . I have a Gretsch and Duesenberg that I don ’ t get to use live much these days , but I keep them around for photos and video shoots . I am so thankful for my Carlton Cases . If you do much traveling they are a worthy investment to keep your cargo safe .
[ WM ] What we like so much about you Yancy , is your sincerity and your joy in what you do to serve the church in general , and kids specifically . It is evident in the live events you do and in the resources you produce . What do you hope worship leaders and church leaders will walk away with as they read your new book , Sweet Sound / The Power of Discipling Kids in Worship ?
[ Yancy ] Thank you for noticing that . It means a lot . I am passionate about it . I know the power of it because I know the music that impacted me when I was a kid that still comes to mind every week . I remember what those songs said , and they help me navigate life still . There have been many times I needed the vocabulary in songs to help me sing what I truly believe is true about God . I want to do the same for all who listen to my music . I also , want to help church worship leaders win at leading kids to Jesus . I believe one of the ways we do that is by helping them experience who He is by drawing close to Him through the offering of their worship . I pray this message impacts every individual that reads it . I believe it will . But , I also hope it causes church staffs to dream big and create vision for the kind of worshippers they want to have in their church . Let ’ s start with the end in mind . And then work backwards . Start building it in them from the time you create that first playlist to play in a nursery . Build it up in preschool . Grow it in elementary , preteen and student ministry . I believe getting everyone at the table to have these conversations and dream together will only make your church stronger in the years to come .
[ WM ] Wow , well said Yancy . Thank you !
