RIEDEL PUNQTUM INTERCOM SYSTEM | Kent Morris
Riedel punQtum intercom system – Ask any audio professional about Riedel and the response is usually , “ Oh , Riedel ? They build amazing audio networks !” Based in Germany , Riedel has a well-earned reputation for solid engineering and robust construction of precision audio control and transport networks used in prestigious facilities and across national broadcast event settings . It may , then , surprise industry insiders to learn Riedel also makes a great intercom system called punQtum . As a new member of the Riedel family , punQtum may have an odd name but its heritage is clearly evident in the way the product is built and how it performs .
The punQtum dual channel design addresses the needs of the majority of HOW customers with a stable wired interconnect via common Ethernet cabling for the links and industry standard four-pin XLR for the headsets . As an IP-based digital system , the punQtum is quiet and connectivity is as simple as an Ethernet cable into a PoE switch and then daisy-chained out to as many as eight belt-packs . The Q110 belt-pack is well-made and ergonomically designed to allow quick responses without having to divert attention away from the task at hand . Thanks to a clear OLED display divided into two sections , the two available party-line channels are navigable without issue . The user may select two channels among a possible thirty-two and enjoy quick personalization through an intuitive programming interface . As an added bonus , there is a thirty-second autoreplay feature to catch missed calls .
The accompanying Q910 single ear and Q920 dual ear headsets are light and comfortable enough to remain viable after triple back-toback services while the soon debuting Q-Tool configuration software will streamline complex system set-ups . However , the punQtum is plug-and-play as it stands , with no computer necessary to get the system up and running .
In use , the punQtum becomes a second nature function with twin knurled volume knobs and a sturdy belt clip to keep the pack in place . The audio is clear with enough punch to cut through a production environment ’ s usually high ambient noise level . Riedel has done their homework with punQtum , offering churches with production needs a viable alternative to established brands through a well-engineered and reasonably priced solution anyone can implement and operate .
