So , the live players at each of the campuses were playing along live to the songs at ten services at their particular campuses , and behind them was the fifty-person orchestra playing along those songs as well as a lot of motion graphics and things that were built-in for the live experience . So , you had two things that were really great , and every time the person online wanted to watch the service , they would get the pre-recorded online version , and the person that came to the live service would get the live presentation . It ’ s the first time we did that , it was a massive undertaking , but it was just a fantastic experience .
[ WM ] On a leadership level , it ’ s not about telling people what to do . You want to share the vision so they can joyfully do their part . How do you roll out such a massive undertaking , with that level of detail , yet all under an overarching vision that you want people to catch ?
[ Chris ] That ’ s a fantastic question , I ’ ve had a lot of learning opportunities with that in my past eight years here and being at a multi-site church . This year it was especially an opportune time for me . Typically , the way that works if we start from a Sunday , we have a song and we want every campus to play it a certain way . We have a quality standard at Church of the Highlands , and that is done by resourcing via Planning Center . Our PCO looks very different than most churches . If you ’ ve never used Planning Center , it is an online platform where you ’ re able to upload your song and any resources for that song and send it to each of your players and then they ’ re able to go practice that song and their specific part for that song and come to rehearsal prepared and ready to play .
So , on a Sunday morning at a typical church their resourcing might look something like an . mp3 or . wav file of the song so they can hear it , then a chord chart , and a lot of times that ’ s it . So , where some churches stop we start , we have those things , but then we have two types of chord charts .
We have a chord chart with the chords but we also have the Nashville Number version of the chord chart in case a different campus wants to play it in a different key . We also have a certain method of doing our chord charts so its not just a chord chart that someone had found online and uploaded , we do it in a way that is easy for our players . Then we have an in-house person that goes and makes actual videos for
