times or from my devotion . So , often it is an overflow of something that I am reflecting about or going through in my life . So , these song ideas come from a very real place . “ Cornerstone ,” actually started as a song of intercession for the kids that had died in the Norway shooting . I never thought it was going to go on any album , for me it was just a prayer of intercession that I sang over the families when I saw the news and all of the kids that had died or been injured in that horrific shooting .
That is how I often write my songs . They are testimony songs that come out of my real life . So sometimes it does feel a little scary to share them because they are like little babies and they have a moment attached to them . But I know there is something so powerful about collaboration and about sharing song ideas with people . I think Jesus loves a team , He always pairs the disciples together , and I think there is something powerful when we come together to worship and collaborate and write . So , I ’ m getting more confident about sharing those ideas . Some songs are good , and some songs are bad , but that ’ s also what friendship and collaboration is about- iron sharpening iron .
Coming back to the song “ Just a Breath Away ( Noel )”, it ’ s the first Christmas song I ’ ve ever released as an artist . Last night I got to perform it for all of the US troops together with Idina Menzel for their channel around the world . We had millions of people watching it from around the world and hearing “ Just a Breath Away ” and being reminded that hope is just a breath away no matter where you are , no matter how long the road is , we can find Heaven ’ s hope inside of us .
I wrote this for the holiday movie , The Three Wise Men . It was in June in the middle of a hot day in California in the dry southwest heat . I saw the Christmas film that tells the story of the nativity and the three wise men , from their perspective , and it was a beautiful film . The genius that made it also made The Grinch and The Secret Life of Pets . I saw it and thought how wonderful it would be to have a
Christmas anthem at the end , something that feels like an anthem of hope . And I wrote “ Just a Breath Away ( Noel )” and it ’ s out now . I am so touched by the response that I ’ m getting from around the world . This song is helping people , touching people , especially in the tough times of this year , just reminding us that no matter
