to teach people how to move in their everyday life in the ways of God , so that might be through their calling as a worship leader , it might be in a ministry capacity , or it might be that they come and spend two years with us just to get a stronger and more firm understanding in their faith and their understanding of God .
[ WM ] The newest release , “ Holy ( Song of the Ages )”, is co-written by yourself , along with Andrew Holt and Daniella Mason . What can you tell us about this song ?
[ Henry ] We released “ Holy ” early this year . This song really started with the bridge moment , which was something that Andrew just started spontaneously singing in church late last year . He was leading and began to sing , and that bridge just came to him in the moment and he sang it over and over . I was standing side of stage about to come up and I thought it was so powerful . We had a quick conversation at the end of the night that we needed to write this . So we got together a few weeks later and as we were talking about it we got this sense again of God wanting to do something that was well known but new , if that makes sense . It was something that was new but had a sense of familiarity to it in some way .
The Bible many times encourages us to bring a new song to the Lord , and I remember having this moment of asking God what does a new song actually mean ? When is a new song not a new song anymore ? How long after you introduce it is it then an old song ? There ’ s nowhere in the Bible that says to bring an old song to the Lord . It ’ s always a new song .
I remember God stirring my heart and saying , “ You can turn a new song into an old song very quickly by trying to do what you have in the past . But I can take an old song and make it new again as you allow me to breathe fresh life into it .” So , as we sat down to write , I just felt like we wanted to write a hymn but something fresh in this moment . As I heard that bridge I just sat at the piano and began to sing that whole chorus I think almost in one take . From there we just had this whole conversation about this song that has been sung before we took a breath here on this earth , this song was already going on . In fact , I believe the greatest worship songs that we have access to here on earth are likely just songs that have already been happening in heavenly realms and that have been for eternity . So that really was the heartbeat , we just wanted to tune into what ’ s already being sung in heaven and to realize that this beautiful lineage of believers throughout eternity that once again gets to echo about your holiness and your goodness here on earth .
