at 16 I had my first bar band gig . True story , they put me in a mop closet until my band started to perform . There was big local band at the time called Buddy Ruckus , and the lead singer wanted to start a band with me . I thought that was a big deal ! It ended up being a big step for me professionally .
[ WM ] Is there a specific song or drum part that stands out to you as one you ' re exceptionally proud of ?
[ Luke ] I really loved the auxiliary drum part we created on “ Hallelujah Here Below ”, when both drum parts come together it just makes it . Also “ Resurrecting ” has some aggressive sounding fills that I felt the song needed .
[ WM ] You recently became a drum samples producer with MultiTracks . com . Can you tell us a little bit about that ?
[ Luke ] I had been thinking about it for a few years and this past year I was in a studio session with my friend and producer Ricky Rod when we started to discuss the idea of making drum samples . I really put a lot of thought and energy into what makes a snare drum sound good , regardless of price . The type of metal , year they were made , the lugs ( I love Imperial ), the heads ( I love Evans ) all shape the sound of the drum . At the end of the day it all comes back to the way you play , the way you tighten the snare , and so many variables .
[ WM ] How do you plan , process , and think about the samples you create ?
[ Luke ] We listed an extensive number of snare drums I own and which ones were used on what recordings . We wanted to capture the samples and also provide options . For example , you can choose from raw , processed , hybrid and effected drums . We captured metal snares , wood snares , modern and various vintage drums with the top- notch studio gear . We have some amazing stories and samples we cannot wait to introduce in the future . We are super proud of them . We also wanted to focus on one type of drum sample in each pack to keep it simple and flexible . This way you can just check out our snares , toms , or kicks , and grab exactly what you need .
[ WM ] With a new sample pack being released every month , can you tell us about one you ' re most excited about ?
[ Luke ] We have some samples captured on a vintage Neve 8068 studio console that I am really excited about ! More to come on that .
