and it is a little cleaner than the TS808 or TS9. It still has the sustain, and with the Silver Sky, it’ s a beautiful sound. I couldn’ t help but try out the Mayer thing with both the Tube Squealer and my original gold Klon Centaur. According to the internet boards, Mayer typically goes Klon into TS10. Sometimes just the opposite. For this review and my personal taste, I went with the Klon into the TS10, or should I say the Tube Squealer TS10. I love this sound, and it makes sense why this is an obvious stack for Mayer. The Klon does its magic, and the TS10 does the final tone shaping. You do get more sustain by pushing into the TS10 circuit. The combo is a win, and I will use this pedal that way on my board. It’ s perfect for solo stuff and really shines with single coils.
This WA pedal design is really very true to the originals. These three circuits are using the famous JRC 4558 Op-Amps, two JFETs, four diodes, and a switch-cap voltage doubler. With the Voltage boost engaged, the pedal has more headroom and could be used as a boost vibe. All three circuits are very usable and musical. My favorite is leaning toward the TS10 setting, with gain at about 60 %, mix off and tone at 1:00.
MY TAKEAWAY: The WA-TS is a well-thought-out pedal. It’ s got the modernized classic TS9 look with a darker vintage green color. There are a lot of tones you can get with the three circuits, and depending on your board, the buffered or true bypass option is nice. I do like the Mix knob, and it’ s useful when you want hair with a little bit of clean coming through. It’ s a very nice hybrid sound. My favorite is the TS10, especially after the Klon. It’ s fat and cuts through with a Strat. Single coils tend to be thin-sounding, and this is just what the doctor ordered.
I’ m already a fan of Warm Audio products, and the WA-TS Tube Squealer doesn’ t disappoint. The look, the quality, and the sound make it an excellent value for both live and studio use. I recommend you give it a test drive.
