[ Jamie MacDonald ] Thank you. It’ s great to be here. I was about to comment on your last name because that’ s what my basketball coach used to call me MacDougall.
[ WM ] Is that right? Well, what’ s funny is we must be related way back when because
Dougall and Donald were brothers. And yes, Mac means son of, so it was son of Dougall, MacDougall and son of Donald, MacDonald. Their father was a Viking king who invaded Western Scotland. I’ ve been fortunate to visit Scotland several times and learn all this stuff. It is just amazing history.
[ MacDonald ] That’ s blowing me away. I’ ve never heard that.
[ MacDougall ] So listen, this is fun stuff. Let’ s jump in with the record.
To quote Tom Petty, the waiting is the hardest part. And to that, I would add waiting with hope is the hardest part. Jamie, you’ ve had to wait over seven years to record this project, and as you’ ve said in the past, it was God’ s timing. But that process of waiting allowed you to process what you wanted to say on your self-titled release. What say you?
[ Jamie ] Wow. Well, this just feels like a special conversation. Throughout that time of waiting, I really felt cared for by God, and I felt very on time with what he had me doing in the meantime. And so, by the time he brought the music back, it was a bit of a surprise to me because I was very content in the assignment in front of me, which was doing prison ministry and helping care for my Dad, and really just growing in my faith and in my identity as a daughter of God. There was so much inner work that he was doing during that time, and it makes sense that he would then turn around and use all that and put it into song. But it was a big surprise for me, and it really was him. It wasn’ t in my own strength. I wasn’ t knocking down doors for the music industry. So, I know it’ s him and it’ s a comfort to know that he’ s leading the way.
[ WM ] That’ s wonderful. When we chase stuff on our own, it always comes back to bite us. So that’ s good you did it this way. And I want to say that I was very sorry to read of some of the
