God does not change . We do .
In staff meeting this past week we discussed that 20 years ago the statistic was that 70 % kids raised in church would leave the church within two years after high school and then return when they had their own children . Now the stats are showing the same 70 % but that they are not coming back at all . Whether or not that is entirely accurate does not really matter . The fact is that in our churches we need to be boldly proclaiming bedrock truth about the Gospel . “ This Is Our God ” is a great song to do just that .
It ’ s good to remember as we are leading worship and selecting songs , that to those people who are young in faith or are nonbelievers , we are teaching truth and teaching Scripture just as much as a pastor giving a sermon . I would argue even more so as music has a way of staying with us longer !
“ This Is Our God ” is a powerful mid-tempo song with plenty of dynamics . This could be played with a simple acoustic or full band , and it would be just as powerful . For those of you leading solo on guitar , I recommend adding the AutoPad app with your iPad or iPhone just to have a foundation underneath your guitar to glue everything together . And if you can , pick up a Lightning to USB dongle and then run through a USB direct box ( the Peavey USB-p is a low-cost option ) you ’ ll have better audio results over just using the headphone out .
For the video you can faintly hear my AutoPad playing in the background . I used fingerstyle to start the song and then a straight drive that I would use with a band .
