NEW MUSIC
MATT McCOY Spirit Songs
song ( although the simple chorus could easily be adapted to the Sunday morning crowd for corporate worship ) with a more country music feel with its acoustic guitars and flowing violins . Lyrically , we are drawn by Christy ’ s powerful soprano calling God ’ s people to remember and rely on the promises of God that never fail .
“ Christ In Me ” follows with acoustic guitar arpeggios and a well written melody as Christy poignantly reminds us that peace and hope can reign in our lives when we surrender our hearts and lives fully to Jesus .
“ Come Magnify ” is probably the readiest for a Sunday morning setlist in this simple yet profound exploration of the healing power of the blood of Jesus that cleanses all sin .
“ Home ” is a reminder of the future that Jesus won for us on the cross and a call for all believers to hold true to the promises of eternity with the Savior . The simple piano motif blended with Christy ’ s feathery vocals give this song a warm and comforting quality like a warm blanket that brings hope and reassurance of the Savior ’ s love .
These four songs are all well written and contain solid Biblical truths and are very relatable given our current situation as a society . I appreciated the honest and prayerful way these songs were delivered , and I can ’ t wait for the full album that is on the horizon . Good to have you back Christy .

Matt McCoy has been leading worship and writing congregationally friendly music for the church for years . He has served in worship leadership at such churches as Willow Creek and Harvest Bible Chapel and is the founder of Loopcommunity . com . It has been 7 long years since we have heard any new music from Matt and his new EP contains seven freshly penned songs that will point the listener to the heart of God ( EP releases February 24 ).
Some of the standout tracks include the opener , “ Counting On You ” featuring a myriad of electronic loops , driving drums and an thumping bass line . McCoy ’ s smooth vocals sounds eerily familiar to a young Leeland as the song is a hopeful reminder that there is nothing that our God cannot do while gently pointing the listener to be patient when we ask God to act .
McCoy calls upon the book of Psalms as the scriptural inspiration for many of the songs on
this collection . “ More Than Ever ” is an honest cry of surrender asking the Holy Spirit to renew our very being that is based on the gorgeous words of Psalm 51 while “ Search My Heart ” is derived from Psalm 139 and is a nice midtempo prayer asking God to reveal things within our hearts that we need forgiveness for .
“ Closer ” is an honest and heartfelt expression of worship as McCoy conveys his deep yearning to be ever closer to the heart of God which is more than enough for us .
Overall , it was good to see Matt McCoy has found his way back into the recording studio .
Lyrically I would like to have seen him dig a little deeper however , as there are a few spots where the Christian cliché ’ s roared their ugly heads . There were a few opportunities I think he missed especially on some of the chorus ’ of these songs that would have really elevated the EP as a whole .
That being said , the arrangements are outstanding throughout the EP and the mixes are well done . McCoy ’ s simple writing and straightforward yet warm performance will appeal to a wide audience .
