[ WM ] Tell us about “ Keep My Eyes Up ”.
[ Ryan ] Oh yeah , that ’ s another one I released on my last record . I wrote it with with Lindy Cofer and Mitch Wong . “ Keep My Eyes Up ” was basically just a song to remind us to do what we do in the midst of all the craziness that ’ s happening in this world , you know what I ’ m saying , with the pandemic and everything that was happening , and people are just kind of losing their minds . And it was like , “ Keep your eyes looking on the Lord , keep looking at Jesus .” Peter sank in the water because he took his eyes off the Lord , and so we ’ re just keeping our focus on love , keeping our focus on God , and making sure that ’ s the one thing that really remains in the midst of chaos . So that ’ s the idea . And it was such a privilege to be able to sing these songs on this Housefires album because the real goal was different when we released these songs on my last album . It was more of the production side of it and trying to just make it sound right .
[ WM ] What is your greatest hope for this project ?
Keep My Eyes Up
[ Ryan ] I hope this record definitely gives people a blueprint of songs . And I mean , albums and songs can be life changing . I remember for me , my whole journey didn ’ t start until after I heard the Live at the Banks House by United Pursuit , and I modeled my whole worship set for years off that one album . I ’ ll still sing that song to this day . So , I ’ m just hoping that there ’ s somebody out there that probably never knew this existed and never knew house church can be like this , just like I did , and it changes their life forever , and that they become like Nate , or the next Blake or the next Kirby … to whatever they ’ re called to . That ’ s my hope for the album .
[ Kirby ] My hope is that people find themselves in it . If they watch the videos , hopefully they ’ ll see themselves represented . That ’ s amazing . That ’ s why we love collaboration , and I hope they find themselves ; I hope they find language to pick their hearts up again and find Jesus in new ways . That ’ s always my hope . It ’ s an honor that we get to give language to people , put language in people ’ s mouths on how to commune with the Lord , and that ’ s still my hope … is that they would do that and find their hearts , find Jesus .
[ Blake ] Yeah . I think my hope would be like what Kirby said , that these songs could find people . And I mean , my hope would be that these songs in these moments kind of find their own life , not just on Sunday mornings , but these would be songs that are relevant and meaningful for people ’ s lives on a normal day . That would mean the most to me .
