that this guitar was going to do a great job of holding pitch , which is does extremely well .
While I try not to judge the book by the proverbial cover , this is a lovely instrument and the tone it produced upon the playing the first chord was equally statured , dare I say elegant . A great tonal balance that you didn ’ t have to hit hard to bring to life .
ACOUSTICS IN GENERAL In the years I served as a worship and creative arts director I made it a point to get to know the acoustic instruments that other team members owned . While it ’ s not necessarily fair to compare a signature Martin to a sub $ 1,000 guitar , if you play enough honky-sounding guitars with painful action you truly appreciate an instrument of this caliber . Generally speaking , once you get above the $ 1,000 price point , the acoustic instruments worship guitar players use most tend to fall into the Martin , Gibson , and Taylor categories . Where the most famous instruments from the latter two tend to focus of a more pronounced bottom and top end respectively , Martins tend to have a frequency curve that is not as ‘ outspoken ’ at either end of the spectrum . These nuances are important both for the player in terms of hearing and feeling the instrument when playing , as well as the implications of how they will fit into the mix with the other instruments and the musicians playing them . I tend to favor the Martin and Gibson flavors myself , and this is one of the finest Martins I ’ ve played to date , as it should be .
THE DNA As noted in Brooke ’ s interview in the companion video to this feature , her Paul Simon and Eric Clapton signature models were the DNA from which this instrument was born . Both guitars speak of the chart-topping experience that the respective players distilled into their Martin signature instruments . While Clapton might be known as a lead player , Paul Simon opted to weave his expertise into his songs rather than solos , ‘ Scarborough Fair ’ being a perfect example . And lest we forget the
