• Change the finger playing the root when you change the location of the interval . For example , when playing the major 3 rd interval , use the 2 nd finger on the root when the 3 rd is played on the A string , and use the 1 st finger on the root when the 3 rd is played on the E string .
• Use fingerings for each interval that require the least amount of stretching or reaching .
• Play each interval as legato as possible . In other words , try to eliminate any gaps between the notes . This is more challenging than it might seem .
• After getting the exercise clean for the C major scale , move your hand position to apply it to different major scales which place the roots on different frets .
