KIDS WORSHIP
AWAKENING THE CHURCH OF TODAY | Yancy
An Interview About Kids Worship with David Ray of Doorpost Kids Worship.
The kids worship resource space is a pretty small landscape. There’ s only a handful of people that have truly focused their efforts on supporting and creating for this space. Over the years, I’ ve gotten to know David Ray of Doorpost Kids Worship and love what they do and the mission behind it all. Dave authored a new book called Kids Worship: Awakening the Church of Today. Take heed. This is an insightful and practical book for the Church, period. However, if you minister to children, I plead with you to take these words to heart.
I recently got to sit down and talk to him about his new book, masterclass and what he’ s learned over the years helping generations grow in worship within his local church.
[ Yancy ] I love that you were an adult worship pastor that caught the vision of kids worship. What turned your attention to the need of this ministry focus?
[ David Ray ] The entry point for me was my own experience as a child and the opportunities I had to be involved in worship from an early age. It was easy to see how formative those experiences were in my life. But by the time I became a worship pastor, I looked around and those opportunities were disappearing from the church.
The bedrock conviction, though, is one that you and I share— that worship is the lifeblood of discipleship. Jesus says about the Pharisees,“ These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” That’ s a picture of discipleship without worship. And if worship is the key to discipleship, then it’ s vital that we teach our kids to worship.
