Oliver Wood , of the Wood Brothers band , first introduced me to rubber bridge guitars with his new solo album Fat Cat Silhouette . I was preparing to interview Oliver and listened to his entire album , but the guitar had a very unique and different sound to it with quick decay . He then explained to me how he had a local luthier in Nashville , TN custom making rubber bridges to put them on his vintage guitars . I purchased a block of jeweler ’ s rubber with the intent of making my own rubber bridges then I discovered Orangewood guitars .
Looking at the images on the Orangewood website their rubber bridge guitars are reminiscent of vintage Stella , Kay and Harmony parlor guitars from a past generation . But don ’ t let the pictures deceive you . Orangewood is making guitars in that style but with modern playability , dependability and electronics . Worship Musician secured the Orangewood Juniper Live Rubber Bridge guitar in sunburst for our review . When it arrived at the office the Juniper was still relatively in tune and the action was set up perfectly .
