Worship Leaders and vocalists , do you watch your own playback to evaluate your service ? Have you ever been shocked or surprised to hear that you didn ’ t say what you thought you said ? I ’ m not talking about making it to the reels of Worship Fails ! You practice your instrument , you practice singing , but do you ever practice speaking over instrumental sections or intros ?
Speaking between songs is easier . Speaking / leading over musical sections can be distracting or even throw off timing if not done well .
So , how , or why do you adlib ? How or why do you fill spots between lyrics ? Oh , I can remember when I began leading worship just how nervous I was to speak . I didn ’ t know what
I would say , and I sure did not want to distract from worship .
This is my third article in a series that I did not intend to write . In the first , we looked at memorizing songs instead of staring at confidence monitors or tablets . The second addressed the problem of leaning too heavily
