A CHRISTMAS DEVOTION FOR YOUR WORSHIP TEAM by Tim Bayer
As a worship team , God ’ s Spirit has anointed you to lead people closer to Jesus .
That ’ s a big calling , especially at Christmas when thousands of people will experience worship ( many for the first time ).
So , this month you are most likely preparing special music , coordinating musicians , hosting and attending parties , all while also making the holiday special for your own family .
My encouragement is to take a moment and look up at the stars . Remember that on that first Christmas , in the stillness of the night , a star appears to lead people like humble shepherds and elevated magi in a different direction . Center yourself in the truth that today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you ; He is your Messiah , the Lord . ( Luke 2:11 )
This Christmas , you get to invite people to look at the star and meet the Messiah . You get to be part of echoing God ’ s invitation that you don ’ t need to go back the same way you came . The star leads all people to Jesus and onward into a different direction … with a fresh hope and a new joy - the old has gone , the new has come .
I sometimes wonder why some people see the star and other people miss it ? Perhaps it was that some people were looking for it . Hundreds of years before the first Christmas , the prophet Jeremiah recorded God saying : You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart . I will be found by you …” ( Jeremiah 29:13-14 )
As you prepare to lead people closer to Jesus this Christmas season , keep seeking the Lord in your heart . Look for Him in your planning , preparations , and parties . He ’ s there in your everyday conversations with your family , too .
The star shines brightly and the darkness of the busyness of the Christmas season will not dim its light as you lead many to the Bright Morning Star - Jesus Christ … who we lead people to this Christmas , and always .
