You need this document to delegate well . Even if you don ’ t find someone right away to delegate this task to , there ’ s a by-product benefit . By workflowing a task , you ’ ll likely discover a more efficient way to complete it .
You just found yourself some extra time !
4 . LOOK FOR PEOPLE WHO CAN DO PART OF WHAT YOU DO . For example , maybe you don ’ t think anyone could be a “ full-fledged ” worship leader . But you probably have a vocalist who can lead a verse or chorus of a song . Eventually , that person will feel comfortable leading a whole song … then maybe a whole set … and then maybe even a whole service …
… while you ’ re off sipping some cold sweet tea on a nice warm vacation !
Or , you might have someone on your team who can plan a solid worship set — songs , segues , scriptures , etc .— with some guidance from you . But that person might not ever be an upfront worship leader . That ’ s OK !
Or , maybe you feel you need to create the team schedule because you have tricky combinations of musicians and vocalists who don ’ t fit together . But do you have to be the one who enters that schedule into PCO , or makes the follow-up calls when people haven ’ t confirmed ? ( The answer is no .) And , could you eventually train someone to recognize those tricky combinations and schedule accordingly ? ( Probably .)
Do you see that delegation and replicating yourself isn ’ t an all-or-nothing proposition ? It takes time and work . It takes intentionality . It ’ s incrementally slow most of the time . But it ’ s worth it !
There ’ s one more thing I need to say before I wrap this up . This is the ‘ unsexy ’ side of worship ministry : it ’ s not cool , hip , or trendy . You won ’ t get very many Instagram hearts for pictures of your SOP . But it ’ s the kind of work that will transform someone from a Sundaydriven manager to a leader who embraces and lives out Ephesians 4:11-12 :
Multiple leaders with a diversity of gifts , equipping people to do the work of ministry .
We call that E4 Leadership™ here at WorshipTeamCoach . com and WorshipWorkshop . com . And if you want to know more about it , I ’ ve got a short video that explains it .
For each article I ’ ve written in this Growth Engine series , I ’ ve given tools and training away for free to help you . They ’ re all on one page , including the “ Understanding E4 Leadership ” video . You can watch it for free on this page with no signup required .
If you want to dig into all these Growth Engine articles , here ’ s a list with links . I don ’ t think Bruce will mind if you rummage through past issues .
