“ Why would I want a one pickup Telecaster ?” is the most common question that people who ’ ve never played an Esquire tend to ask . Once you ’ ve had a chance to play one , that question usually answers itself . In the front position , the tone control is bypassed , but is added when the middle position is selected . The back position again bypasses the tone control but adds a pre-determined treble roll- off . This combination makes for three great variations on the bridge pickup , especially when you experiment with rolling the tone control back on the middle position . With the tone control all the way up , the front position is a tad bit brighter than the middle position and pulling the tone control back allows you to get this position even darker than the back one .
