THE SMALLBONE FAMILY LEGACY // An Adventurous Christian Life

In 1991 David and Helen Smallbone left Australia and came to the United States with their seven children , no money , and a dream . Since then , God has spectacularly used them to impact the Christian music world and our culture .
[ WM ] Thank you all for doing this ! I know it ’ s a very busy time for you preparing for the tour , managing homes and kids , and the daily dealings of the virus and its impact on all of us . I ’ d like to start with you , David , but anyone can jump in after you answer . David , you and I have both been involved in Contemporary Christian Music for a long time . In fact , I think we ’ ve been at it for around 50 years each ! In that we ’ ve each worked with some wonderful people , but also some that practiced the antithesis of Christianity and Christian ethics by their lack of honesty and integrity . We ’ ve also both been “ re-invented ” by the Lord . Our kids have heard and seen it all . The importance of how we have responded to our adversaries by our examples and through our “ ups and downs ”
Together directly affects our kids and their perception of Christianity . Our responses are often a baton that we pass on to our children in this race . What say you ?
[ David ] Its been a fascinating journey , and my plan was to live in a really nice suburb in Sydney and let my kids go to the best Christian school in Sydney , which we did for a number of years . Then I did a big tour thirty-one years ago , and everything was taken away . I was thirty-nine at the time , and I look back now and see I was given a gift . I think I bought into the lie of show business and big ministry , and for whatever reason the business side of us gets priority . So , I had everything taken away . And a
