range of tonal options you simply can ’ t get on a traditional Tele .
Speaking of the pickup , the Tim Shaw designed pickup was inspired by an original Esquire pickup from the Songbirds Museum collection . From Country spank to Jazzy smooth , this pickup delivers a surprisingly massive tonal and stylistic pallet , PnW included !
FAT NECK EQUALS FAT TONE While the U-shaped neck may feel a bit big at first , once you dig in , playing is believing . If you ’ re used to thinner necks , chances are that you ’ ll soon appreciate how a larger neck accommodates transitions from melodic lines and chords , including those with the thumb in the bass a la D / F #. The Vintage-tall frets feel great under the fingertips , and the 7.25 ” fingerboard radius is surprisingly ‘ bend friendly ’.
More neck also means more tone , and when it comes to tone , this guitar has got a ton of it .
THE FEEL Ideally , the ‘ envelope ’ of a guitar ’ s response should speak to the way it envelops the initial transient with a healthy balance of sustain and decay . This is definitely something you can hear and feel . In this instance , it is a key part of what makes this instrument so special . Acoustically , the notes have a syrupy vibe that makes you want to keep playing , and the only gets better when you plug in .
ONE PICKUP , MANY TONES If you can wrap your head around the idea that a bridge pickup can give you most everything you need , there is a lot to love about the way this instrument sounds when plugged in .
THE WRAP Although I own the Broadcaster , there is something very special about the 70 th Anniversary Esquire . If you live on the bridge pickup , and it ’ s in your budget , this guitar is definitely worth the money given the quality of the build and outstanding range of tones it delivers .
