happens in church? Everything that I write is hopefully going to be something that God can use corporately for his people. And so that’ s my hope is that for churches, worship teams, worship leaders, small groups, that it can be something that supplements what’ s happening in our communities and what we’ re reading in scripture, what God is speaking through his word.
My hope is that these songs can be sung in church and be a resource to people.
[ WM ] Wonderful. And may I ask you, what is your guitar of choice?
[ Canaan ] Oh, yeah. I’ ve got a Martin 000-16 GT, which they don’ t make anymore. But I want to say I looked up the serial number. I want to say it was manufactured in 2004, 2005, something like that. So, it’ s just hitting that 20-year mark and it sounds amazing. It’ s an auditorium style. Love it. And the story behind it is really fun too. Just quickly, I was getting married to my wife and I had a mini-Ed Shearing Martin Acoustic guitar because that’ s what I could afford. It was like $ 399 or something like that. And I’ m like, I got a Martin guitar. But it was a mini version of what I really dreamt of having, which is one of these auditorium style Martins. And so, I was getting married to Emily, my wife, and we were getting ready for the wedding.
It was a couple weeks ahead of time and we went to visit her family. that season. So got that and then was gifted a K & K Trinity pickup system that next week.

And my father-in-law said,“ Hey, I inherited this guitar from my great aunt. You could probably put it to much better use than me if you want to check it out. It’ s downstairs before you guys leave.” And I had very low expectations. I’ m like,“ Oh yeah, sounds good. I’ ll go check it out.” So, I went down and immediately as I’ m walking across the room towards the case, I can see the Martin emblem on the case. I’ m like,“ You got to be kidding me. No way.” Opened it up, and it’ s pretty much the exact model that I was hoping to buy one day. And so, it was the Lord for sure. It was such a fun icing on the cake of
[ WM ] Talk about the Lord will provide! Right?
[ Canaan ] Amen. Amen. This poor, just getting out of college kid gets an amazing guitar for me to worship.
[ WM ] Yeah. Well, that’ s just great, all of this. I’ m really excited for you. And I’ ve been at this for a long time. I’ m 75, and I’ ve been doing this since the first Christian band I was in, I was 20 years old. So that’ s 55 years ago. Jesus movement, all of that out of Southern California. I’ m excited for you. I am excited that you embrace calling
[ WM ] Well, thank you. God bless you and God bless the songs that you’ re going to be putting out or that you’ ve put out there. I hope everyone gets a chance to not only hear these songs but buy them and let them live in their lives. So again, I’ m really excited for you.
