I wanted to work with him on something that I was doing and I reached out to him. We started brainstorming ideas, and I love the finished product of that video, so I’ m glad you like it too.
[ WM ] I do. And the song“ More Like Jesus;” Boy, that opening line,“ I’ ve been told to live my own truth.” Is that ever relevant to today? Living for ourselves is not freedom. What can you tell us about that song?
[ Canaan ] That song ministered to me long before it ministered to anybody else. The Lord was really doing a deep work in me and just I asked him to reveal to me ways that I’ m not living in alignment with him, and he did it. I was walking through this evening of conviction, pruning, confession, and that song just came from that personal experience and then reading through Romans. There are references to Romans 6, Romans 7. In Romans 6 it says,“ Surely if we’ re baptized into a death like Christ. We’ ll be resurrected into a life like his.” And so, the idea of dying to self and leaving the old man gone and living into the new creation was at the center of it. And that first verse was really a social commentary. I mean, we see that everywhere. The idea of no restraints is freedom.

And I think people are starting to wake up to that in larger culture too, but it’ s the truth of scripture.
[ WM ] Yes, and the video is multiracial and multicultural. That video, it’ s the church or at least the way it should be. I loved It.
[ Canaan ] Amen.
[ WM ] So the song“ The Lord Will Provide” is fabulous. There’ s so much joy in your leading worship, and that song really conveys it and it sings truth that none of us ever need to forget.

So, what are your hopes for the album Will Provide,” but I’ ve been blessed by it. So and the songs on it? that’ s a cover on the record that has blessed my church, blessed my team, blessed me. And [ Canaan ] Absolutely. It’ s been a long time it was just masterfully written. Man, there’ s no coming and I’ m so glad that it’ s out right now. better thing to remind ourselves of, than to sing My hope with all my music, everything that I throughout the days other than he’ s got me.
