in this church. He has a great sense of who came before him, all the steps across the way, and he shares that with us often. And there’ s a common thread to your point that every pastor, from the Holiness Movement days to the‘ 70s where everyone was afraid of the hippies, to the‘ 80s moving on, where the pastors didn’ t stray from truth and didn’ t compromise on scripture, but really loved people where they were at and didn’ t turn people away, continued to be openminded on the things that are not just things that are more negotiable.
They were willing to let young voices have a say, and they were teachable on the things that were up for debate. And yeah, it’ s just continued to grow, and young leaders have gotten a chance. I think the pastors and the leaders have really pioneered the way on that, and God’ s favor’ s been on it. I’ m grateful to be a part of it.
[ WM ] That so good. Well,“ My Salvation” is the title track of your recently released album.

Tell us about the project, and then I’ ll ask you about a couple songs after that.
[ Canaan ] Love it. Yeah.“ My Salvation,” the track, really rose to the top as we were writing and preparing and praying for what the project was going to become and what songs were going to land in it. And just the heart behind that song was as a worship pastor and as an ordained minister, I try to think from the perspective of what’ s happening in church, what are services like, how do we operate and what are songs that can help facilitate what’ s happening? And the lyrics in the song,“ My Salvation,” are supposed to be really, really paired well with when there’ s a call for salvation or you’ re presenting the gospel and there’ s time to respond. It’ s supposed to really help aid in that. The first words are,“ Today’ s the day of salvation. Come on in, come on in. Your burden is heavy. He’ ll take it. Come on in.” So, it’ s like this invitation to come to Jesus. And then the chorus is a confession of all the key, not all, a lot
