this truly was one of those supernatural God breathed moments where it felt like it was ordained. And Cody had actually been woken up in the middle of the night with some of the music. He couldn’ t understand why he had woken up; the dog was barking or something. He came down, sat the piano, and that created the music for the verses. And then suddenly, holy is the Lord( sings). And suddenly we were in. So beautiful that that happened. And from the first moment we did, it was, it’ s like this has been there the whole time.
[ WM ] Oh, wonderful. That’ s just great. You know Martin, you’ re an icon in what’ s referred to as modern worship and a significant contributor to the church. And I’ m speaking of course of the post Maranatha and Integrity Music dominance of praise and worship during the seventies through the mid-nineties when Cutting Edge and Come, Now is the Time to Worship were released in the U. K. in 1998. They literally changed music and a posture of worship in the broader church. Are there some distinctives that need to be remembered from your Delirious days and even some from those of the early Vineyard U. K. times? What, if anything, has changed in the worship world over the past 25 years?
[ Martin ] Wow, what a question! Well, I think the values and the principles of being a Levite, part of the Levitical priesthood that the Old Testament talks about, those principles have never changed. Psalm 24 says,“ He who has clean hands and a pure heart, they will ascend the hill of the Lord.” And that is absolutely a prayer for our generation. And that’ s never changed. That’ s always been in the tenets and at the core of who we must be as worshipers and as people that lead other people in worship to God.
It’ s like the priestly calling is to try and stay out of trouble, come with humility. Don’ t get embroiled in nonsense, but you attempt to keep your hands clean and your heart pure. And of course, none of us can truly do that without the grace of Jesus. So, then Jesus
