SOUND CHECK
OUR MAGAZINE MASCOT IS LAID TO REST …
For the last eleven years each time I sat down to write this Sound Check column , or to proof the writer ’ s columns or to write a gear review , our family dog Winston was always right by my side .
Winston was a rescue dog , a full-bred Havanese that somehow or another was found roaming the streets in California with a pack of other dogs . He spent two years in the pound system ( I don ’ t know how someone would not have chosen him ) and when that time was up , they were going to put him down on a Friday . The workers ran out of time and on Monday morning Winston thankfully was adopted into a foster home in our state of Washington .
I found Winston listed on Craigslist on Valentines Day . I had been looking for a lap dog that would keep us company and we could not have done better as Winston was a constant companion .
I believe dogs have a mission in life and the Lord blessed Judy and I with Winston . He brought us comfort and joy . He was a “ Velcro dog ” as he would stick by our sides . He was gregarious too . He was kind to other humans but loved other dogs more . His tail would whirl like a helicopter blade when he met them .
We took Winston everywhere we went . He loved riding in the car seat next to me when I ran business errands , and all of our family and friends expected to see Winnie whenever we showed up .
As he reached his later years both his hearing and eyesight diminished . We adjusted our lifestyle to where there was always one of us on-hand . As he aged further , he had a few other ailments but lastly a malignant oral tumor ruptured and out of mercy we needed put him to rest .
It was a very difficult to do , but God had given Winston quite the personality and he truly was a gift from the Lord to us . We trust God with all things here on earth . I can ’ t speak for sure , but I do hope that in God ’ s infinite wisdom we will not only be reunited with our loved ones who trusted in Jesus , but in Heaven , we will be reunited with our pets that carried their missions out faithfully here on earth … to God ’ s glory .
We miss Winston dearly , but it is a well-placed trust when you place your trust in the Lord .
