I know here in Australia especially in Sydney where I grew up , every church guitarist ’ s pedalboard setup , guitar choice and amp choice has been influenced by the Droff in more than one way or another and his influence continues to inspire church guitarists around the globe to this day .
When it comes to modern worship music and the role of the electric guitar , no guitarist has been more influential with their sound , creativity , choices of gear and musicality than Nigel Hendroff . From his iconic riffs , beautiful guitars , unique amps , iconic pedalboards and creative uses of delays and reverbs , his sound and playing has inspired a generation of guitarists in church over the last two decades .
However , in the last 21 years of Droff ’ s playing at Hillsong church , there has been one guitar brand which has made that Hillsong sound so easily identifiable , and that is none other than Gretsch . My first-time seeing Nigel with his first Gretsch which was a black Duo Jet was in 2005 for the God He Reigns album and from then on , Gretsch guitars have been an essential part of Droff ’ s sound for Hillsong Worship and
