TOP TEN TECH SUPPORT TIPS | Jeff Hawley & Richard Starr
For this month ’ s ‘ Audio With Jeff Hawley ’ article I ’ ve brought in a special guest , Richard Starr . With six years experience as a Technical Support Specialist for Pro Audio Equipment at American Music & Sound , he ’ s been the goto resource for all sorts of audio technology troubleshooting for churches of all shapes and sizes . I asked Richard for a highlight reel of the top ten tips that he ’ d share based on his years in the support trenches and here is what he had to say !
[ Jeff Hawley ] What would you say is the first tip in the Top 10 list , Richard ?
[ Richard Starr ] Keep firmware up to date . Digital consoles are essentially specialized computers . No matter how much testing is done by the developers , computers will always have bugs – and those are resolved with firmware updates . Staying on the latest maintenance release minimizes the risk of encountering known bugs . It also means you will have access to the latest features available . Seek out and bookmark the updates page for your gear and check it regularly .
[ Jeff ] Even assuming that folks have the latest firmware and some basic tech expertise , there are still instances when they might need a bit more assistance , right ? What other steps might churches take in keeping things running as smoothly as possible ?
[ Richard ] Buy local when possible or have some means of procuring on-site support . There ’ s nothing wrong with buying from online big box retailers , most of them also are great at providing support . But keep in mind you may require on-site support at some point and buying from a dealer on the other side of the country can limit your options . Buying your
