that are hurting need to hear that song again , if not for the first time . Worship leaders need to revisit this as a staple that will minister to their congregations . Have you heard testimonies from listeners of this song ?
[ Franni ] Wow . We have heard so many testimonies . Does anybody else want to talk about this ?
[ Andrew ] It ’ s really special how the Lord chooses to take our testimonies and use them , as he walks us through them , using them to heal other people ’ s lives also . And that ’ s the whole point , I think , of community and of the church is to encourage each other along .
And so we ’ ve had a pretty hard start . I mean , the reason the band started was because we went through a really hard church experience together where we felt really hurt by leadership in the church .
And we were together saying , “ Man , what does church look like ? How do we trust leadership again ? How do we trust people that are preaching the gospel ?” Because this particular leader had kind of taken some of God ’ s words and twisted them a little bit , just a little bit , to make them sound like truth but also have some agenda in them .
And so it was really hard for us , or at least for me , to go to church even , to listen to messages . And so we were at a camp writing , and out of that processing , we wrote this song , just feeling the Lord calling us back to Him .
And so it ’ s really cool now to hear stories of people , I mean , so many stories , and this song doesn ’ t even specifically touch on church or anything like that , but people are telling us ,
“ Man , I was hurt by leadership , and this song helped me figure out the church and community with people and coming back to God and hearing the father ’ s voice again in that hurt .” And we say nothing about that in the song .
So it ’ s really cool just how God used our testimony to encourage other people through the song , and so it was very special for me .
I actually heard it just after I saw that new Elvis movie , and man , speaking of having been through some hurt and even spiritual trauma , I feel like there ’ s a lot of manipulation in his life . And it ’ s so crazy because , I mean , the way the movie depicted it is he kind of started his musical experience in the church , and you can hear it in his songs . He had lots of songs that kind of go back to his roots . It ’ s so wild . And so when I heard the song after seeing that movie , it hit me on a whole other level . I think , man ,
