CHRIS JOHNSON ’ S “ THIS IS JESUS ” | Mitch Bohannon
There are some fantastic songs of worship that are coming out of local churches all over the country . Some songs can be written and sung just by a specific church and there are some that need to get out and be sung by the whole church … all across the nation . I believe “ This is Jesus ” is one of those songs . play the “ F ” chord with no 3 rd , or not fretting the 4 th string . Also , the “ C / E ” chord is simply muting the 6 th string - making the 5 th string the bass note . This song is super fun to play . I dropped it ½ step to Bb just by moving my capos down 1 fret each , but you can move them up or down the fretboard to suit your range .

The song must have spun up randomly on Spotify and I saved it . I would hear it over and over in my playlist while driving . It took me a while to find it because I couldn ’ t remember the name , but the song was really clicking with me . It came out of East Coast Christian Center in Merritt Island , FL and was written by Chris Johnson .
I was able to connect with Chris to get his permission to use the song and just had a great conversation with him , such a great guy and a great story behind this song . He wrote this song in 2018 and lead it in his church for a while with a desire to see it recorded . A church member gave an offering specifically for Chris to record “ This is Jesus ”. What a blessing ! Not only was the gift fulfilling to Chris ’ s goal of recording the song , but that offering lead the song to me and now to you as well . I hope this can be an inspiration for you to either keep writing or keep giving !
“ This is Jesus ” comes from Psalm 24:8 , Revelation 4:10 , Philippians 2:9 , and Psalm 150 . This is a great song to play with the cut capo . It ’ s super simple and the open chord shapes work well with the feel of the song .
The song is recorded in the key of C . To play in C with a cut capo , you ’ ll place a full capo on fret 3 and the cut capo on fret 5 . If you need to adjust the key , move both capos up or down the fretboard … Key of B 2 / 4 ; Key of Bb 1 / 3 ; Key of Db 4 / 6 ; Key of D 5 / 7 .
