Not:“ Hey, great job Sunday.” But:“ Those last 30 seconds after the message— that was really well led. You created space there.” That kind of feedback sticks.
You already know: Where transitions felt off Where dynamics could’ ve been better Who’ s ready for more responsibility Who might need a little more support
So use it.
And if you’ re not careful, your team starts to think that’ s the expectation every week.
April is where you quietly reset that.
Not by lowering the standard— but by recentering the purpose.
LET THEM BREATHE This one’ s tough. Because you probably don’ t feel like you can slow down yet.
But your team just came off a sprint. And if you go right back into stacking your strongest people every week because“ it works,” you’ ll feel that cost later.
Usually around early summer when people start disappearing. So build in some margin.
Rotate people out. Keep rehearsals tight.
Don’ t chase perfection for a couple weeks. Nothing is falling apart because you took your foot off the gas slightly.
You’ re actually protecting the long-term health of your team.
DON’ T WASTE THIS WINDOW April is one of the most underrated times to actually grow your team.
Not in a big, formal way. Just in small, intentional moments. Because everything from Easter is still fresh.
Fix one or two things at a time. Talk about it in rehearsal. Show it, don’ t just say it.
And keep connecting it back to the bigger picture: We’ re not just trying to sound better. We’ re trying to lead people well.
GO BACK TO THAT THING YOU AVOIDED You know the one.
That conversation you didn’ t have because it was Easter week. That tension you hoped would just smooth itself out. It didn’ t. And it won’ t. But it’ s also probably not as big as it feels. Most of the time, it’ s just a matter of being clear and honest— without making it a big deal. Handle it now, while it’ s still small.
RESET THE TONE Easter has a way of shifting everything into high gear. More production. More intensity. More pressure.
Just remind them: We’ re not here to impress people. We’ re here to lead them. And those aren’ t the same thing.
ONE HONEST OBSERVATION If your team only feels strong when the stakes are high … That’ s not really strength yet. That’ s adrenaline.
What you’ re building now- in a normal month, on normal Sundays- that’ s the real foundation.
FINAL THOUGHT You don’ t need to rush into the next big thing. You just need to take care of what you’ ve been given. Your team. Your culture. Your rhythms.
Easter showed you what’ s possible. April is where you decide what actually lasts.
